Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA)
There are 18 peaks in the ranges of 6,500m and below, open for Alpine trekking under Nepal Mountaineering Association. It should be noted that in most cases the climbing of these peaks require snow and ice climbing experience. Detailed information and application for climbing permits are available from the Association's office, Kathmandu through your trekking agency in Kathmandu.
Refund
In the event of cancellation of the permission by NMA or the failure of the expedition to materialize due to some others reason, the fees already paid will not be refunded. Every individual or party granted a climbing permit should be accompanied by a Sirdar/Guide, who must be registered with NMA.
Functions and Duties of the Sirdar/Guide
- To Assist the climbing party with recruitment of porters and other staff, control of porters, local purchase of food, etc. and to solve any problem that may arise to the best of his ability.
- To report to Nepal Mountaineering Association in case the party spends more than the prescribed time limit in the Mountain.
- To ensure that the climbers comply with the terms of their permit.
- To ensure that the climbers, (trekkers) follow the specified route.
- To ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
- To report to NMA any infringement of the climbing rules.
- To report any serious incidents to the nearest police post. The Sirdar/Guide shall be employed from the day the climbing party begins the trek until the trek is finished.
The Sirdar/Guide will be provided with the following facilities
- Minimum daily allowance to be paid as per the rules of His Majesty's Government,
- Ministry of Tourism, and Civil Aviation.
- Food and tent accommodation.
- Climbing equipment and necessary clothing if required to go above base camp.
Insurance
All employees doing above base camp must be insured for personal accident to the value of Rs. 200,000/-
Nomination of Representative in Kathmandu
Each party granted climbing permit will nominate representative in Kathmandu to act as liaison between NMA and the climbing party. The representative may be an individual or an organization registered with NMA. The nominated representative will be responsible for making necessary arrangements for the climbing party in case o accidents or any other unforeseen circumstances.
Submission of report
On the conclusion of the climb and on return to Kathmandu the party will submit a report to NMA in the form prescribed in Appendix "4".
Power to cancel the permit
NMA may cancel or withdraw the climbing permit any time with or without showing any particular reason.
Non-compliance of the regulation
Where any trekking party acts in contravention to the climbing permit or indulges in acts of unsocial or outrageous behavior contrary to the customs and culture of the people of Nepal, NMA may recommend to the HMG to take necessary measures in accordance with the article 37 of Mountaineering Regulation 1979.
Protection of Environments
Base camp and other camps will be left perfectly clean at the conclusion of the climb. No foreign materials such as fix ropes, pistons, etc. shall be left on the mountain. All rubbish and waste material must be burnt or otherwise disposed off.
Revision of the Regulation
Any article of this regulation may be revised or amended by NMA with prior permission of HMG/Nepal.
Grade(Moderate)
This trip goes as soft and normal way tour begins by drive or by fly and goes around city or just round city area or 10-200 km far from Kathmandu city. Maximum high altitude will be 1050m. to 2700m. from the sea level. Any aged group can make this trip like children above 10 years to 70 years elder people. No, long walking no long flying just a comfortable tour. Trekking would be teahouse or lodge to lodge maximum a week.
Grade(Strenuos)
This trip goes as higher and each day has to walk about 5-6 hours up and down or sometime 2650m. to 4000m. high altitude and to cross the hill pass or snow caped pass. Need to have a good experience for the high altitude before going such a trek. Trek would be both types lodge to lodge or camping fully equipped and cook supported trek for a week to a month.
Grade(Uncrowded & Isolated)
Most of this trip will be western region restricted area of Nepal where there will be very rare tourists. Also some eastern part of Nepal. But in such trek, the government royalty fee is very high and 2000m. to 5000m. will the high altitude from the sea level. Only fully organized camping cook support trek possible. Daily walking 6-7 hours the trek duration will be 2 weeks to 60 days.
grade(Tough & Hard)
It is one of trip that who would like to experience the difficult and hard time. For example, it would also be permitted peak climbing, mountaineering, expedition or to cross very risky and dangerous high passes on the way of just normal trekking. When crossing the pass, need to cross by rope, need to have good training, knowledge and trick that how to fix the rope and how to scale the peak and how to care the porter and all crew members during the granted period. Only fully camping cook support trips are suggested. Daily walking will be 6-8 hours the trekking
