This is a remote area of open valleys and long ridges covered by temperate forests and alpine meadows, with a status second only to Kathmandu in terms of History and scenic grandeur. Jumla was once a great kingdom of the Khas Malla dynasty with its territories extending from the Kali Gandaki to Kumaon (now India ) and from the Terai to Taklakhar ( now Tibet ). The remnants of this greatness are still evident in Jumla in the form of Sculptured temples, stone pillars and folk songs.
