Mt.Kailash claimed to be the apex of the Hindu religious axis is
also one of the highest mountain in Tibet at 22,022 feet, and
Lake Mansarovar at 14,950 feet is said to be the highest fresh
water lake in the world. Certainly a difficult region to reach due
to the variable and extreme weather conditions. The distance
from Lhasa for example is approximately 2000 km.
Only during the last few years have lots of ordinary and not so
ordinary travellers, been able to experience this region. Road
conditions are difficult much of the time and we have to make
many preparations to ensure that we have a reasonable chance
of reaching Kailash. We need to bring our own food and camping
equipment. Basic lodges and tea-houses can be found but the plateau
is so remote that it is possible to travel for several days without finding
food available.
To travel for days on this remote plateau with the chance encounters of nomads herding their sheep or yaks is to be transformed into another way of life, to see and become part of such a devout pilgrimage as shown by pilgrims around Mt.Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is to put some aspects of our western way of life into proper perspective.
We begin the tour by traveling to Kathmandu and departing by road to
the Nepal/Tibet border town of Zhangmu where we collect our
Transport. We travel by the SOUTHERN route and after our
pilgrimage (religious or secular) we return by the same route.
The day to day program is outlined as follows:
16 DAYS MT, KAILASH MANASAROVER TOUR - KATHMANDU - ZAGMUNG- MT.KAILASH - ZAGMUNG - KATHMANDU
DAY ITINERARY DETAILS
Day 01 Kathmandu
Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 02 Kathmandu
Morning sight seeing tour of Bouhanath (Buddhist biggest stupa in the world) Bhaktapur - medieval city of devotees, and Pashupatinath - the holiest Hindu temple. Rest in the afternoon.
Day 03 Kathmandu - Nyalam
Embark on a scenic drive from Kathmandu - Kodari . Walk to The Friendship Bridge and
drive uphill to Zhangmu .After completing custom and immigration formalities,
proceed to Nyalam . O/nt at Htl Nyalam or similar . (153 Kms / 6-7 Hrs)
Day 04 Nyalam (Way to Zhangmu)
Stay at Nyalam (3750m) for acclimatization . The Group will be taken for a 3 hrs Trek in Nyalam . O/nt at Htl Nyalam or similar.
Day 05 Nyalam - Saga
Drive Nyalam - Saga (4600m - 240 Kms / 6 - 7 Hrs). O/nt at Guest House.
Day 06 Nyalam - Saga
Drive to Paryang (4750m - 255 Kms / 5-6 Hrs). O/nt at Htl Paryang.
Day 07 Saga - Hor - Quo
Drive to Hor-Quo (4560m - 223 Kms / 5-6 Hrs ).Camp at the banks of Lake Manasarovar.
Day 08 Manasaarover - Darchan
AM Lake Manasarovar Parikarma (4520m -115 Kms / 4-5 Hrs.) PM Drive to Darchen (4620m). O/nt at Guest House.
Day 09 Darchen
Trek to Serlung Monastery and to Nandi Parbat for an excellent view of Mount Kailash . The Group will stay at Darchen and make final preparation for the Kailash Parikarma. O/nt at Guest House.
Day10 Kailash Parikarma
Drive ahead of Troche-to the trek starting point of Kailash Parikarma (13 Kms) Trek to Dirapuk (4860m - 7 Kms) approx 5 - 6 Hrs. Trek . Camp .
Day 11 Trek to Zuthul Puk
Trek to Zuthul Puk (4760m - 18 Kms). approx 9-10 Hrs. Trek. Camp
Day 12 End to Parikarma - Paryang
End Kailash Kora (10 Kms) approx 3 - 4 Hrs Trek. Drive to Paryang (270 Kms / 6-7 Hrs.) O/nt at Htl Par yang.
Day 13 Paryang - Saga
Drive to Saga ( 255 Kms / 6-7 Hrs.) O/nt at Guest House.
Day 14 Saga - Nyalam
Drive to Nyalam. (240 Kms / 6 - 7 Hrs). O/nt at Htl Nyalam or similar
Day 15 Nyalam - Kathmandu
Drive downhill to Zhangmu and Friendship Bridge where transportation awaits for the final leg of journey to Kathmandu.
Day 16 Kathmandu Departure
Leisure until transfer to the airport for onward flight.
